Who we are

A family distillery in China’s baijiu heartland

Qifu (齐福) means “blessings, all together” — the moment when family and friends raise their glasses at the same time. Since 1978 our family has made baijiu in Mianzhu, at the foot of the Longmen Mountains, where glacier-fed springs, yellow clay and a humid, misty climate have supported brewing for more than a thousand years.

Today, led by Mingchang Ji for over 30 years, we still make strong-aroma (Nongxiang) baijiu the traditional way: pure grain, solid-state fermentation in mud pits, and patience. Our baijiu is now enjoyed in Europe, Africa and Asia.

Three generations around a family table

Family

Generations of know-how. A family business that values heritage and culture above shortcuts.

Mianzhu farmland and streams below the Longmen Mountains

Place

Mianzhu, Sichuan. Named a “World Fine Spirits Characteristic Region” by the China Alcoholic Drinks Association (2019).

Sealing the pit with yellow mud over red grain

Craft

Traditional Nongxiang. Yellow-mud pits, red grain cap, around two months of fermentation.

A year in the pits

Four seasons,
one cycle

Four pictures, one full cycle of strong-aroma brewing: out of the pit, mixing, distilling, cooling. Behind the workers the painted tree blossoms, leafs, falls and snows — the seasons turn, the work at the pits never stops.

The cellar

Good baijiu is waited for.

New spirit goes into clay jars and ages slowly as the clay breathes. Our oldest reserves are as old as the distillery itself.

— From the family motto: keep learning from the old ways

Regional heritage

A region toasted
since the Tang dynasty

More than 1,200 years ago, Mianzhu’s “Jiannan Shaochun” was presented to the Tang imperial court as tribute wine, and poets passed through to drink it. Qifu carries that regional tradition forward, one batch at a time.

Records of 779 AD note Jiannan’s annual tribute of spring wine.
